What we offer

The Whirlies extends you a warm welcome.

Many of our summer weekends are taken by the end of March. If you have a specific need, you might wish to book early.

The Isle of Purbeck enjoys a benign climate unique in the UK. Winter days can be absolutely gorgeous. Check out today's weather and the next 5 days here.

Nestling in a rural, south-facing side of the Purbeck Valley, at Harmans Cross, The Whirlies offers comfortable, quiet, bed and breakfast accommodation for up to four people. Views across the valley are delightful and the sea at Swanage can be seen in the distance. We are 70 metres back from the A351 and very peaceful.

Harmans Cross is perfectly placed between Swanage and Corfe Castle, with easy access to Wareham, the Isle of Purbeck and the World Heritage Coast of Dorset.

A large garden surrounds the house which is always busy with many, varied bird visitors.

Small groups? The two rooms are private from the rest of the bungalow.

Feature terrace with gorgeous views of the valley and to the sea in the distance, complete with luxury swing seat.

Just perfect for balmy evenings star gazing....

We offer a double room with en-suite tiled shower cubicle, sink and WC, and a twin room with en-suite bathroom, sink, shower bath and WC.  Both have HD flatscreen TV, Freeview and a DVD library, for those quiet evenings in... Photos of the rooms are here.
Both rooms are non-smoking as is the rest of the house.

We like to make breakfast special. The starter is made each morning from fresh fruit, followed by whatever you wish from a choice of three cereals, juice and yoghurt. Our bread is home-baked without preservatives, as are our locally-made jams and marmalades. We source our eggs from a local farm and our bacon from local butchers.  We use tomatoes on the vine. Accompanied by Fairtrade coffee and tea.

Breakfast is served in the conservatory with delightful views over the valley and time to watch our bird visitors.

In order to preserve the tranquility for all of our guests, we regret that The Whirlies is not suitable for children and babies.

There is substantial car parking in our drive.
Our community is Neighbourhood Watch and very safe.

Night time noise is minimal and we often enjoy star-lit skies with no local ambient light.
